Woodcock Hunting
Practical Lessons

Life Philosophy

Description
The course, which lasts a weekend, can be done all over the year as it takes place in the woods (about 20ha) of the farm Tenuta Il Santo which are dedicated to the training of dogs with shooting and therefore can be used even out the hunting season. The practical part of hunting (i.e. shooting) is possible by using particular “jump” cages where we put a partridge (whose plumage is similar to the woodcock’s) that will fly like a woodcock for about 20/30 meters thanks to the jumping push of the cage. Participants can use their own dogs which will be trained by the teacher according to the different breeds and to the different character of the dogs. During the hunting season the course will take place with real woodcocks (if present), with thrush and wild pigeons (early morning), with wild boar or roe deer (in the permitted time). In the evening there will be game cooking lesson.
Companions can take part to the following activities: natural guided and photography, horseback riding, spa and beauty centre, Tuscan landscape watercolour lessons, guided tours of cities of art, children workshops: scientific, natural-didactic and musical…

Programme:
Theory: ethic/aesthetics, clothing, weapons and ammunitions, dogs training, search for the best places, approach to forest .
Practice: approach to forest, training and conduction of auxiliary, practical training at placement and shooting to woodcock.
